Practical help with creating new footprint

  • Boss .

I think the issue is a confusion of terms, this is not an edge connector but a USB type C surface mount component.

Using the online search I could not find anything similar
    https://rs.componentsearchengine.com/ga/search.html?

You can request the part to be built by submitting the documentation.

    Hi Boss

Ok, i´m a bit rusty here, can you send me the link/info on how to request this and how to add the Teck specs for the connector please

From the search engine I entered the part number and went through the request steps.

As it a special footprint it will be examined. Note I submitted the request...

Looking back at the datasheet I am now wondering if DSPCB can support this as it's quite different being a double sided surface mount component, the first I have noted! SamacSys normally only have issues with slotted pads as these have to be done by you separately from the footprint, but this component brings a new twist....  *** Anyone else come across this requirement? ***

I shall await SamacSys response and discuss with the support team as I'm interested in this issue and will post back as soon as I hear anything.

    Hi again Boss

And thanks, there is one other model of this that have the A 1-12 trough hole and B1-12 as surface, but this model i cannot find anywhere on the normal sites, i can however find it in China, and i have a few models here but no CAD file on them yet

Please get back to me when you hear anything, possibly one can draw the connectors on the pcb, but i woul really like to have it as a symbol in library

    Have a nice evening

Hi Anders, I have looked at this connector again and your description is good, it is mounted as an edge connector! That I think presents some further issues for a component model as the board outline requires location slots which obviously adding the component itself cannot modify. It also is designed for 0.8mm board thicknesses which is half the typical thickness.
At this point, I'm assuming this component is not possible using the normal methods within DSPCB.

What are the alternatives you are considering?
Are there any available from RS that meet your requirements as these may be easier to get component models and useful for other users?
Slots as mentioned present a problem, but we can try and see how SamacSys respond or is there a through-hole (and or surface mount pad option) that also has surface mount pads for the physical mounting of the socket?

    Hi Boss

Thank you for the reply, well i need the full 24pin model as a male plug pcb mounted, as i earlier said i´m unable to find these in the normal channels other then the one you have seen.

Now there is one other model that have all the pins on "top" side... saying this the second row is a through hole design, but again i have a few here at home, but the chinese supplier is unable to produce a cad file for this one

If you can find one that meets the requirement for Male Plug PCB mounted 24 separate pins i would be most grateful..

    Hello Anders,
We are in discussion with SamacSys to make available USB 3 connectors from PPL.
We will update this post when available.

    Hi Great

The link i sent you for the other type of pcb connector - i also got sent to me a DWG cad file with those 2 connectors of interest - is there a way for me to send this to you - or no need for it?

Please raise a support ticket and attach the files.

    Submit a request – DesignSpark Support (zendesk.com)

As a note SamacSys are at the moment examining similar components that should meet your requirements and be readily available. Full dimensional details are required for the part and your files may help in the final part selected. Thank you.
