    Nils,

If not wanting to move global origin  0,0,0, but just to orientate, then select part, invoke move cmd, place the TA at the point of interest, align the TA as above then select 'Orientate to Object' - this time now choose any edge , axis, face, another origins axis etc. etc.

    Nils,

The above methods of moving parts, may not change the automatic face grid orientation ( eg in a sketch) when selecting just a face - sometimes it gets oddly skewed !

If a face ( UV's) does somehow get skewed - eg, it can by sweeping a non vert / hor,  line as an example. To correct the problem a new face must be made.

Select face, RMB, 'Detach' then delete it. Select the open face edges ( double click) , then key F ( Fill ) - hopefully new face UV directions are OK.

    Nils.

One quick way is to place an origin on the object at the desired 0,0,0. It's important check and orientate the origin if necessary to your choosen xyz directions on the part to be moved.

    1. Activate the part to be moved.

    2. Insert an origin at the parts desired 0,0,0

    3. To orientate the origin if necessary

Select it (screen pick or in SB ( Structure Browser) and key 'M' for move cmd. Note the move TA (Tri Axis) is aligned to this particular origin axis. ( Footnote. it's possible to have many 'origins' on a part, consider as 'user origins'. they can be renamed as req'd - used as a sketch 0,0 etc.

To align the origin X axis to an edge - select the TA red arm - it highlights and other go 'grey' or muted color. Select the 'Orientate to Object' move icon and choose an edge for the parts X dir. The origin X axis is now aligned to the part. Now select the TA green arm, again it highlights with others muted color, again select an edge for the Y dir. The origin Y axis is now also aligned.

(To ' flip ' an axis dir. select the necessary rotation axis and type 180 enter.)

Now the Origin should be positioned and aligned to how you want the part to be when moved to 0,0,0.

In SB, select the part, then lastly select the origin - keep the curser within the SB window, RMB, and  click 'Snap to Origin'

    Hi.

Very nice description. Tested all methods you advised to understand it and it worked for me. Also for the faces. I corrected the necessary ones. But would be easier if the orientation of the grid is saved after changing it. Perhaps an enhancement for the next version.

    Cheers,

    Nils

The way I dealt with this was to go to sketch mode, create a block, go to 3d mode and use the Orient to Object to align with the block.

For the origin I have a hint: I got in discussion from DS support. I do not get it working use move tool to change the origin in sketch mode but you have to select it in the  structure browser. The normal behavior does work only in 3D mode. Seems a bug from my side which confusing people a little.

Nils - You've found a bug or it's just illegal / illogical selection and actions - I'll report it anyway.

Working with Sketcher Constraints v5 7232 build. ( Previous sketcher  technology ( same build not tested yet - edit, tested now, X and Y seperate inputs required).

The Move Grid icon only works immediately if there is at least one sketch entity. If not, then the xy grid jumps to the chosen upto position ( relocates) after the first entity is created /made. However it moves / orientates OK but this is not a permanent face re-orientation as you wanted !

If using the normal move tool ( Design>Edit>Move )  In sketch mode and selecting from the structure browser, problem behavour occurs as below.

Selecting a face, making a curve, then (key) ( move mode but no tool appears ), select in structrue browser Sketching plane 1 ( or it's child, 'sketch 1' ) then 2d move handle appears, select upto icon and click another point on the face - then plane jumps off the model ! This has to be a bug !

In a sketch mode, selection of enities in the graphics area as normal is also working a bit unusual, i can't move upto ( a point ) in one go ? i need to move in x then y..Edit: I can drag / snap curve ends ok though.

The new Sketcher Constraints is very much a 'work in progress' , good improvements coming but not until v6 sadly.

    Thanks.
