How to add a 3d part to a design

Trying to add a downloaded (.rsdoc) part to a design.

I created a 3D design by importing a pcb IDF file successfully. Now I want to replace the rectangular cubes with actual 3D models.

I downloaded an 0402 capacitor and was able to open the file, which appears in a new tabbed document inside the program.

How do I add this to the design in another tabbed document?

  As a side note, I tried to follow the instructions by clicking on "Insert in my design now", but I got a message 'This feature requires Jave runtime...".

  I do have the latest ver. installed, and verified, but it didn't import the 3D model.

  That's why I tried the download to file method.

  I think that this is a Java problem, but not sure what.

  Copy and Paste.

  Select the solid - right click - copy.

  Open other tab - right click - paste.

   

  Or you could use the 'Insert file'

  Is it possible to select all the instances of the same 'block' components originally imported, and replace them with the correct 3D model automatically? The image shows a couple of these components highlighted. The list in the Structure menu would be nice to able to sort too.

  Cheers. - I literally just started using this program. I was using Sketchup, but this seems a lot better.

  Select the 'Component' in the Structure tree - Right click - Pick 'Source' - 'Replace Component'.

  A box will open asking you to open a file. So the new 'Component' must be saved as it's own file. If you understand.

  If you Right click on the top Assembly/Component - Sort - A to Z or Z to A

  Thanks again for the help.

  When I did the replace, it removed the 4 component blocks from the PCB, but it placed the 4 new 3D models above and spread apart compared tot eh original positions.

  Any idea why it would do that? is there some default offset for component replace?

  I forgot to mention when you use the 'Insert File' the file will be inserted as an 'External Component' That is why it is easier to Copy and Paste.

  These links are for V1 DSM the version I use. It may be different in V2. Just look up the online help files.

  I don't know why the inserted files are moved.

  (The arrows point to where the component blocks that were replaced, were originally located. 'Floating' #D files are circled).
