Well it seems in the past the pcb symbol editor got more and more restrictive in using layers, tracks, vias, layers, etc. In the early versions there has been much more flexbility. Now when for example I want to copy elements of a board using in a pcb symbol like a macro or something this is restricted with the message "no suitable data on clipboard". There are several circumstances where this feature would be very helpful. Like using (thermal) vias in a symbol or using board outlines within a symbol because you need a milling inside a symbol - not possible. In DS 6.x and also 7.x this was possible as far as I remember. Even using tracks inside a symbol are useful if you construct developer boards with different footprints inside each other (smaller in bigger). You have to do all the connections manually when placing inside the board.
Why can't you leave more flexibility and responsibility in the layout designer ? The restrictions are helpful for unexperienced user/designers in the first steps. But for professional designer, who know what they are doing, this is like a play school. :-(
