This discussion was many years ago but still needed feature. I understand, that you want to have clear in naming nets in schematics where connections maybe easily redrawn manually. But in the pcb this can destroy much work when you have to rename the already drawn tracks. It is awful to delete and reroute these tracks manually.
Following scenario, in an already drawn board I want to introduce a voltage level translator from 5V to 3.3V and have to separate the nets D0-D7 (databus) into D0-D7 (5V) and lets say LD0-LD7 (3.3V). This can be done easily in schematics but in the pcb editor forward design changes still unroutes all these well placed tracks.
Nice would be a feature to disconnect the track partly and rename only the rest of the track on one side. This is not possible now as it renames ALL tracks.
There is a similar bad situation when you have a local net instead of a global net which is redrawn in schematics and has a new local net name. In this case there is also the complete track unrouted and just a wire connection even when the net of the old name is no more in use. In this case it would be nice just to rename the track instead of still deleting it when not necessary. It is not necessary, when the old net name and the new net name have the same connected pads.
