Adding pads in the schematic view.

    Hi Josh,

I'm assuming you require separate pads, not a group of them like in the connector? If so, you need to create a single pin component in the schematic and PCB component library. Then you can use it in the schematic and get translated to the PCB.

    Hi Jayx,

Thanks for getting back to me.

    Excellent, your solution works nicely!

The only issue I see is that the "component" now shows up in the bill of materials.

Do you know if you can omit components from the bill of materials, I can't find any options for it? I can do it manually but if there is a way to save me time messing around with the BOM it would be good to know.

    Thanks again.

I thought you may ask about it :). Yes there is, but you'll need to create you own output BOM report which unlike the built in one you can customize to exclude these "pad components".

    Hi Jayx,

Thanks for that, I will give it a try.

I'm a new user of this particular software, and this was the very first issue I came across. Interestingly also in the example design library the first thing I saw was a VCF board with wires coming off of it. So from these examples I know that having wires soldered to pads on a PCB is not uncommon! Why would this software not have a common component or built-in object for a pad, simply to tie an off-schematic connection to? Seems silly to have to go through hoops such as creating a BOM report, etc. to deal with this common PCB feature.

    Hi Jack,

I'm a fairly new user as well and I'm glad to see I am not the only one with this problem. Yes the work around is rather messy and subsequently I have requested this be updated in the next DS PCB version, feel free to vote on it. ;)

    Kind regards.

There should be no issues creating a simple single terminal and pad as a component. If you experience any issue contact the support team.

Regarding excluding from the BOM, this can be easily achieved by adding a new value to the component.

The BOM report requires editing to parse the new value, but this is just a few steps using the edit options and is only required to be done once for future use. An FAQ detailing the steps has been created:
