[4 layers PCB with SMD components]
Hi everybody,
I have an issue with routing 4 layers pcb. I'm designing a 4 layers PCB with 4 layers configuration (layer 2 : GND, layer 3: Vcc). The PCB includes moslty SMD components and through hole components. After investigation, I find that all the through hole components are connected to GND and Vcc by default and I have nothing to do and the SMD components are not connected. What should I have to do to connect the SMD components to GND or Vcc (according to the needs of the schematic wiring) ? And why through hole component are connected to GND or Vcc by default ? Please advice me.
Thanks for your reply.

Through hole components have a hole that goes through the whole PCB, this plated hole will connect with any layer so DSPCB correctly inserts the 'internal' pad on the correct layer.
SMD's have a pad on one surface only, so to connect to a power plane you have to do it by placing a via which passes through all the layers at end of a piece of track in a position that is suitable.
