There are two features of this that should be implemented. Most of this can be found by going into PowerPoint or similar programs.
The First feature is when a group of components are selected, there are features that allow for alignment through either a menu item selection, or a right click. Typical in these alignment features are:
- Align Left
- Align Right
- Align Center
- Align Top
- Align Middle
- Align Bottom
- Distribute Equally Horizontally
- Distribute Equally Vertically
- Offset Distance
The Second feature is automatic alignment guides. These are something that come while the person is moving the component and a guide would automatically appear off an edge of centerline of nearby components. This is usually influenced by the amount a person is zoomed in as to the components that will present a guide, and weight is given to the nearest components.
The first portion is needed more than the second, but the second would allow for placement of components and traces without using the grid snap while also achieving better spacing of the items.
