When working on your design you may get to stage where you wish to change the track style to a different width. DesignSpark PCB provides several options to select, segments, complete tracks or parts of the track which can then be changed.
Below is a tracked PCB (for illustration only) where we have a track that is routed in various ways. It shows straight segment tracks, junctions, via's to swap layers and multi-segment tracks.
Select Track Segment.
The first way of selecting a track segment is the single left mouse click. Place the cursor over a segment and click to select. Here we show a segment between two vias. If your requirement is to change just this, right click and select "Properties" and change as required.
NOTE: A left mouse click on any clear area of the board will clear the current selection(s).
Select Additional Track Segments.
While this segment is selected you may add additional segments to the selection, this is achieved by using CTRL + Left mouse click and the additional segments will be highlighted. Here two additional segments have been selected. Continue with this method as required to build up your selection.
NOTE: CTRL + Left mouse click toggles the status of the segment, so if you select something in error perform the CTRL + Left mouse click to deselect the segment.
Select Multi-segment Track.
As seen above this will take many selection steps to select a multisegment track, so the next command to be aware of is SHIFT + Left mouse click this will select the complete track between junctions.
Select Additional Multi-segment Tracks.
You may add additional segments with a CTRL + Left mouse click and if you wish to add a further multi segment track use CTRL + SHIFT + Left mouse click.
For example the multi-segment track pointed to by the orange arrow in the image above is also shown selected in the image below.
Select Complete Track On Net.
Finally what if you wish to select the complete track on the net?
Here we select any track using SHIFT + Left mouse click followed by a second SHIFT + Left mouse click and the complete net is selected.
At any point to change the track style of the selected items, Right mouse click and select "Properties" and edit as required.
Here we illustrate changing the track width to 35 thou (was 15 thou) and by clicking the "Apply" button you can visualise before committing to the change using "OK". Click "Cancel" to reject the change.
The arrow shows an area of concern which is likely to break the Design Rules for "spacing".
This is confirmed by a DRC report after making the change.
Returning to our original complete track selection, we could have deselected this single segment by CTRL + Left mouse click before using the "Properties" to change the track Style.
(As the change has been made you would now select the segment and change the track width).
Now when we change the width for the selection this segment is not changed.
Although the following refers to "selection", if the item is already selected it will be deselected, i.e. they toggle the current status.
Left mouse click Selects the current segment.
CTRL + Left mouse click Adds the segment to the current selection.
SHIFT + Left mouse click Selects a complete multi-segment track.
CTRL + SHIFT + Left mouse click Adds a multi-segment track to the current selection.
SHIFT + Left mouse click followed by a further SHIFT + Left mouse click will select the complete track.
At ant time a Left mouse click on a clear area will remove all the selections.
SHIFT + Left mouse click on any part of a PCB footprint such as a pad will select the complete footprint.
