NOTE. The following is only for users who have a beta version installed.
DesignSpark PCB installation of beta versions installs and creates folders and registry entries the same as the final release version (i.e. without any specific beta identification). You cannot have a beta version and final release version installed at the same time.
To upgrade to the final release version you will need to take the following steps.
1. Make a copy using Windows File Manager of your public folders used by DesignSpark PCB.
This will normally be in C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\DesignSpark PCB N.n (where N.n stands for current release number. For example 8.1)
The folder contains your libraries, technology files, templates etc., and will include your created components and customisation, SAVE the contents to a safe folder. It is recommended that you rename the folder "Backup DesignSpark PCB N.n" to easily recognise this.
2. Use Windows to uninstall and remove the installed beta version.
Note that this will leave the registry contents unchanged as these are common to all versions.
3. Download and install the final release version.
During the installation, you will receive warnings that your Library etc., will be overwritten, but provided you have made a backup copy these can be ignored.
4. Launch DesignSpark PCB to ensure all is functional.
This should not require registration to activate as the details remain in the registry.
5. Now reload your Libraries etc. locate C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\DesignSpark PCB N.n
and delete this newly installed folder. Ensure it is the correct software version!
Locate your backup version C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Backup DesignSpark PCB N.n and rename to C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\DesignSpark PCB N.n
The final release version will now allow you to continue with your projects created in the beta version.
