How do I enable my previous libraries after a version update?

After updating to a new version of DesignSpark PCB, your previously created custom folders such as your “User” and “Download” libraries will be missing from the available libraries. Each version of DesignSpark PCB has its own version folders in the system "Public" folders, the reason for this is that it prevents any customisation of the supplied folders you may have done in the earlier version from being overwritten.

The following shows the procedure to map any folder to the library, however the illustrations are showing the mapping of V7.1 folders after the installation of V7.2

  1. 1) Launch the Library Manager and select the "Folders" tab.
This view shows the currently enabled folders and those that are mapped but not enabled in grey text.
  2. 2) Click the "Add" button and then "Browse" to locate the required folder, then click through to the "Libraries" folder and select any component in the list of available *.cml, *.psl or *.ssl.

3) Click the "Open" button.

4) You will then be returned to the Library Manager with the selected library and path displayed. Click the "OK" button to add this library to those available.

5) Ensure the new folder is enabled, if not select it and tick the check box. The components that are in the library appear in the lower window and can be disabled/enabled as required.

6) The final configuration is to decide on the search order as shown by the upper window.

DesignSpark PCB searches for the first occurrence of a name, hence the suggestion in the tutorial is to have unique names for all components. This can be optimised by having your search order as "User" library at the top of the list as you have created or modified these and it is highly likely that these will be your first choice.

Second in the list is your "Downloaded" components as again you have chosen these.

Finally you will see any other folders you have enabled.
