The simplest and the shortest way for proper installation is applicable when the account rights can be changed for temporary period of time:
- Change rights for given user account from standard user to admin account type
- Install from that account DesignSpark PCB
- Run DesignSpark PCB first time - still keeping admin rights to that account
- Change rights from admin to standard user for that account
- Run DesignSpark PCB as standard user
If there is no possibility to change rights for the user account even for a small period of time the steps described below should help:
During installation process folder needs to be chosen where user is going to keep data files like libraries, technology files and projects. Usually all users have right to write into 'Public' folder so there is no need to change default folder where data files are going to be stored.
Below there is screenshot from installation process where above choice needs to be made:
If you do not have rights to write in default 'C:\Users\Public\Documents\' folder, then you need to chose another folder where you has right to write to that folder. For example sub-folder in your 'Documents' folder.
Should you wish to install DesignSpark PCB without changing default folder for storing the data, you can follow below steps to verify/change rights to that folder described in appendix of this FAQ.
Path to “Technology” folder must be changed to appropriate one on the window:
Menu bar > Settings > Preferences > tab: “General” > section: “Folders”
For example from:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\DesignSpark PCB\ Technology
C:\Users\Public\Documents\DesignSpark PCB 8.0\Technology
Path to “Library” folder must be changed to appropriate one on the window:
Menu bar > File > Libraries > tab: 'Folders' > button: 'Add…'
For example from:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\DesignSpark PCB 8.0\Library
Path to “Report Templates” folder must be must be changed to appropriate one on the window:
Menu bar > Output > Reports > button: 'Options…' > section: 'Report Templates Folder'
For users who wish to keep default folder for storing the data, but needs to obtain right to write to that folder:
After installation without changing the folders, rights to public folder must be changed by administrator to “full control” for given user.
“Right click” on public folder:
Then button “Edit…”:
Then click button “Add…” to change rights for certain user typing the user login_name:
Or simply by changing rights for everyone using that computer by typing phrase “everyone”:
Add “Full control” to that folder:
And then don’t forget to click button “Apply”.
