    Hello Tom,

You can import DXF files from Autocad and other apps into the schematic editor as shapes. You can then copy the shapes from there to the schematic symbol editor window to use them as part of a schematic symbol. You would still need to add the "pins" using the schematic symbol editor tools, but it would at least let you use your external cad package to define complex outlines more easily.

    Hello Brad,

Thanks for your help but I'm still stuck. I've tried every way I could see to import a test .dxf file but no luck. The only import option is in the pcb file menu and I tried that but never could see the test file item. I tried copying and pasting info the schematic editor but no luck there either.

I'm no doubt doing something wrong but can't see it yet.

I've looked at other help items and seen where it mentioned that it will only import acad 10 or higher, maybe that is the problem, since I have rev 7.

    Any other ideas?

    thanks again!

My Bad. I verified I could copy a shape from schematic to schematic symbol editor, but didn't notice the lack of import in the schematic editor. Sorry.

    Hi Brad,

Oh not to worry, although I can't seem to do what I asked about, I did manage to create a suitable symbol so life is good again! :)

    Thanks for your answers though!

    Tom
